Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 13, 2026
Short version: we collect the minimum needed to run the site, we don't sell your data, and we tell you exactly which outside companies see any of it. Longer version below.
What we collect
Account information
If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo URL from Google. If you sign in with a magic link instead, we only ever receive the email address you give us.
Comments and ratings
If you leave a comment or rating on a recipe or blog post, we store the text, the rating (if any), your account, and the IP address the comment was posted from. The IP address is used only for spam and abuse detection, never shown publicly, and never used to profile you.
Usage data
Standard hosting and analytics logs: pages visited, approximate location from IP, browser/device type. We use Vercel Analytics for this, which is cookie-free and doesn't track you across other sites.
Delivery region preference
If you pick a delivery region in the footer (for example choosing the UK Amazon store instead of the US one), we remember that choice in a cookie so Amazon links point to the right marketplace on your next visit. This cookie only stores your marketplace choice, isn't used for tracking or analytics, and isn't shared with anyone.
How we use it
- Signing you in and keeping your account working
- Showing and moderating comments and ratings
- Sending a welcome email when you create an account, and an email when someone replies to a comment of yours (you can switch that off in settings; no marketing list)
- Understanding which recipes people actually use, so we make more of what works
- Detecting spam and abuse
We don't sell your data, and we don't run ad targeting based on it.
Amazon affiliate disclosure
Proteinaire is a participant in the Amazon Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. When you click an ingredient or product link that goes to Amazon and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission — at no extra cost to you. We don't receive any information about what you bought or how much you spent; Amazon just tells us that a purchase happened through our link.
Third-party services
Data retention
We keep your account data as long as your account exists. Delete your account and we delete the associated personal data within 30 days, except where we're required to keep records for legal reasons.
Your rights
You can ask us to show you what we have on file, correct it, delete it, or export it. Email us and we'll handle it, usually within a few days. To delete your account yourself, use the Delete account button on the settings page; it removes your profile, favorites, ratings, and reactions right away, and your comments stay under the name Former member.
Children's privacy
Proteinaire isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.
Changes to this policy
If this changes in a way that matters, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
